8 Week Mindfulness Training with
Gus Castellanos, MD & Debra Annane, MA, MPH

This eight-week program provides guided instruction in formal mindfulness meditation techniques, including relaxation, gentle stretching, and class discussion. Gus Castellanos, MD, and Debra Annane, MA, MPH, are University of Massachusetts Center for Mindfulness trained facilitators, presenting this training based on the program originally developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn. Guided recordings are provided for establishing a daily one-hour home practice, which is strongly recommended to experience the full benefits of this program.

Gus Castellanos, MD

Gus Castellanos, M.D., retired Neurologist, (UM Med class 1980) is a mindfulness program teacher since 2009 that is certified to teach MBSR by the UMass Center For Mindfulness. He currently teaches at a variety of facilities, including Sari Center for Integrative Cancer Care, Palm Beach Co Fire Rescue, UMindfulness, Mindful Kids Miami and FIU College of Medicine, to name a few. He has trained thousands of participants in his mindfulness classes and workshops. He has facilitated bi-monthly mindfulness sessions at a local prions since 2011 and serves as adviser to the UMass CFM’s outreach MBSR program at Jupiter Medical Center. He lectures widely and writes a bimonthly South Florida Mindfulness newsletter. He founded a local mindfulness teacher sangha in 2011 that continues to meet monthly.

Debra Annane, MA, MPH

Debra Annane, M.A., M.P.H., R.Y.T. has taught secular, community-based mindfulness interventions and mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) since 2013. She has been practicing yoga and meditation for over 30 years and trains extensively in the Zen Buddhist tradition at world-renowned meditation centers throughout the US. With the convergence of her interdisciplinary training in anthropology and personal interest in mind-body medicine, health literacy and inequities, toxic stress, and resilience, in 2008 Debra shifted her professional career as a TV news and documentary producer to public health and bio-behavioral medicine. In 2011, she encountered the work of Jon Kabat-Zinn and subsequently participated in the 8-week MBSR course. Soon thereafter, she began training with the University of Massachusetts Center for Mindfulness, Healthcare and Society and is a qualified MBSR instructor, as well as a Yoga Alliance 200-hour registered yoga teacher, and an ordained urban Zen priest. Debra’s additional professional experience includes managing research on cognitive behavioral stress management among underserved women, developing electronic health education interventions, and developing an evidence-based implementation intervention. In addition to facilitating and adapting mindfulness-based programs for a variety of populations, Debra works full time as an Assistant Project Director in the Miami office of Sociomedical Sciences, Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health, and serves an adjunct instructor of mindfulness in public health and medicine within the UM Department of Public Health Sciences.
